Shoulder MRI Scan
A shoulder MRI provides our radiologists with a detailed visualization of your shoulder, including the shoulder bones, muscles, and tendons. A shoulder MRI may be suggested if you are prone to certain joint or muscle conditions or if you have had a shoulder injury or surgery before. At Park Avenue Radiologists, we offer the best in shoulder radiology by providing unmatched patient care and state-of-the-art radiology services.
What is a shoulder MRI scan?
A shoulder MRI scan depicts your shoulder through medical imagery, which allows our radiologists to pinpoint any abnormalities or irregularities. Once your shoulder MRI scan is complete, our radiologists will promptly read your shoulder MRI results for a proper diagnosis. A shoulder MRI provides a more detailed assessment of the health of your shoulder when compared to other medical imaging tools, such as a CT scan or X-ray.
What can a shoulder MRI scan help diagnose?
Our radiologists use shoulder MRI technology to help diagnose or assess various disorders of the shoulder, such as a fracture, tear, arthritis, or injury. In some cases, a shoulder MRI is even used to evaluate the progress and effectiveness of shoulder surgery that you may have undergone. Other common uses for a shoulder MRI scan include diagnosing tumors, infections, or lack of mobility. A shoulder MRI scan is a diverse diagnostic imaging tool that can help our radiologists diagnose various shoulder-related injuries, disorders, and conditions.
What can I expect from a shoulder MRI scan?
In some cases, our radiologists may administer contrast during your shoulder MRI scan in order to better visualize the health of your shoulder. You will then lie down on the MRI table and enter the MRI machine. At Park Avenue Radiologists, we offer MRI scans in our spacious open-bore MRI machines to promote patient comfort. We understand that a shoulder MRI scan may be intimidating or frightening to patients with anxiety or a fear of tight spaces. If you feel like you need to exit the machine during your shoulder MRI scan, we can pause your shoulder MRI scan for a few minutes. We value your safety and well-being and can help you exit the machine and calm down. Our MRI machines have twelve inches of headroom and are more spacious than traditional MRI machines, so most patients feel comfortable during their shoulder MRI scan.
How long does a shoulder MRI scan take, & when will I get my results?
A shoulder MRI scan may be completed in just fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on your particular case. The length of each shoulder MRI scan will vary depending on what you are having evaluated. If contrast is administered prior to a shoulder scan, your shoulder MRI may be fifteen minutes longer. Once your shoulder MRI scan is complete, you will be allowed to return to your normal activities. Our radiologists will quickly analyze and evaluate your shoulder MRI results and notify your physician when your results are available. Your physician will then contact you with your test results.
